The MagSafe Wallet has some advantages over traditional adhesive phone wallets in terms of convenience and ease of use. Its magnetic attachment method makes it much simpler to remove when needed to access cards or charge wirelessly compared to wallets that stick on with adhesive.
But is the MagSafe Wallet secure enough to secure everyday cards?
Table of Contents
How secure is the MagSafe Wallet in terms of holding cards?
The MagSafe Wallet is reasonably secure for holding a small number of cards for everyday use. The strong magnets ensure the wallet is attached tightly to the iPhone. The wallet should stay on the phone even when the device is violently shaking.
However, Apple’s MagSafe Wallet is not the strongest out there. Alternatives like the PopSockets PopWallet and ESR Vegan Leather Wallet appear to be stronger at holding the cards.
Still, when using a MagSafe wallet, it’s recommended to take out the phone from the bag or pocket gently to prevent the wallet from detaching.
Does the Find My app allow you to track the lost MagSafe Wallet?

Unfortunately, the Find My app does not provide a detailed history of when and where your Apple MagSafe Wallet detached. The Find My app only shows the last known location where your wallet was attached to your iPhone.
After all, it uses no battery and doesn’t act in a similar fashion to AirTag. The Find My app can only tell you the last known location when the wallet detaches.
However, there are some things you can try to help locate your lost MagSafe Wallet:
- Retrace your steps and visit the last known location shown in the Find My app. This is where your wallet was last detected as attached to your phone.
- Activate Lost Mode on the Find My app to let anyone who found the wallet know where to return the wallet.
- Call places you visited recently and ask if your wallet was found and turned in.
- Check your credit card statements for any transactions made after you lost your wallet. This may provide clues as to its location.
Is the MagSafe Wallet shielded for RFID protection?
Apple didn’t explicitly say about the RFID protection on their MagSafe Wallet, but the support page suggests the cards are “shielded to keep them safe”, which is a strong indication that the original Apple MagSafe Wallet features RFID protection.
Several third-party MagSafe wallets, like the Pelican Shield Wallet, HiWe MagSafe Wallet, and WALLFID MagSafe Wallet do come with RFID-blocking as well.

Should you be using the MagSafe Wallet?
It’s hard to say, but it’s generally a good accessory to consolidate your daily carry. To help you decide, I have summarized the pros and cons of the MagSafe Wallet (both from Apple and third parties):
| Pros of MagSafe Wallets | Cons of MagSafe Wallets |
|---|---|
| ✅ Convenient attachment and easy access to essential cards | ❌ Can slide off if not aligned properly on the magnets |
| ✅ Integrates with Find My app to help locate if separated from iPhone | ❌ Difficult to remove cards while attached to the phone |
| ✅ Quality leather design and materials | ❌ Limited card capacity |
| ✅ Holds up to 3 cards securely (third-party options offer more) | ❌ Generally more expensive for what it offers |
| ✅ Stays attached well in most usage scenarios | ❌ Can pick up dirt, especially lighter color leathers |
In short, the MagSafe Wallet works very well for carrying a minimal set of essential cards. The magnetic attachment is convenient yet secure during typical usage. But, the card capacity is relatively minimal, and the price tag is higher than traditional wallets.
In short, the MagSafe Wallet is ideal for those looking for easy access to just a couple of cards directly on their iPhone without adding the bulk.
