Accessory maker Anker recently announced that its upcoming Qi2 wireless chargers will support 15W charging speeds for iPhones, matching the speeds of Apple’s own MagSafe chargers.

The Qi2 wireless charging standard, which adds magnetic alignment similar to MagSafe, will enable iPhones to charge at up to 15W with certified third-party accessories. Previously, third-party Qi chargers were limited to 7.5W speeds with iPhones due to lack of MagSafe certification.

Anker has unveiled several new Qi2 accessories under its MagGo brand, including wireless charging pads, multi-device charging stations, and portable batteries. The company says its MagGo Qi2 products have received full compliance certification from the Wireless Power Consortium.

Support for 15W Qi2 charging will come to iPhone 13, iPhone 14, and iPhone 15 models with the upcoming iOS 17.2 software update. This will greatly expand the iPhone compatibility of Anker’s faster Qi2 accessories.

The new standard has the potential to drive down prices and improve compatibility between iPhone and Android devices. Anker’s Qi2 accessories are expected to be more affordable than Apple’s first-party options. Wider adoption may also convince other manufacturers to implement support in their devices.

With many brands on board and iPhones adding compatibility, Qi2 marks an important milestone for universal and interoperable wireless charging.
